This unique fusion creates an artistic narrative that transcends time and captivates the essence of cultural diversity.
On display until March 2024, the exhibition at Conrad Punta de Mita serves as a vibrant celebration of artistic convergence. Guisu’s work invites guests to explore the intricate connections between tradition and modernity, offering a nuanced perspective on the dynamic interplay of cultural motifs. As you wander through the curated display, you’ll find yourself immersed in a visual journey that transcends boundaries, seamlessly connecting the past and present in a way that resonates with both art enthusiasts and casual observers alike.
About the Artist
At the age of 37, Sabino Guisu hails from Juchitán, Oaxaca, born into a lineage of skilled potters. Recognized as one of Mexico’s most promising young artists, Guisu’s journey into creativity was shaped by his keen observations of nature and the rich traditions of the Istmo de Tehuantepec region. Balancing the roles of a librarian and a Fine Arts student in the City of Oaxaca, his educational path was largely self-directed. Delving into diverse realms such as anthropology, religion, and symbolic psychology, Guisu’s expansive knowledge became a foundation for his artistic expression. Immersed in the influences of pre-Hispanic and peripheral cultures, notably the Zapotec, Guisu breathes contemporary life into ancient forms and symbols through a thoughtful dialogue with modern influences. His work, exhibited internationally, serves as an ongoing contemplation of the intricate interplay between nature and culture. Addressing contemporary society with a sacred perspective, Guisu’s art becomes a reflective canvas, where the timeless dialogue between tradition and modernity unfolds in a visually compelling narrative.

Past Collaborations
From November 2022 – March 2023, Conrad Punta de Mita collaborated with the artistic duo behind Mascaras de Alambre to bring guests an otherworldly art exhibition. Comprised of over 15 pieces ranging from 20 cm to 8 meters tall, the coiled wire sculptures inspired by ancient Mexica heritage and symbolism were placed throughout the resort for an interactive art exhibition. To commemorate the partnership, the artists presented the larger-than-life piece, “Espectador, 2018” to the resort. Suspended over the infinity edge of the Aura pool, the skull is an important symbol to Mexico representing not only death, but life, ritual, and sacrifice.
